Ever since the children were babies Brian and I read to them every night. It was something that we all looked forward to. As Katie and Ian became readers, they started having reading time by themselves before bed.
Having that one on one time with the children was something I missed. When I watched the story of the Father that read to his daughter every night until she left for college, I thought to myself you are never to old to be read to.
I made a declaration to my family that we would be having bedtime stories again.
Brian and Ian are reading the Hobbit. Katie and I are reading the latest Penderwick story.
I can't believe how much we are all enjoying this. I wish we had never stopped. Once school starts, I'm sure that we won't be reading every night, but we certainly will be making a habit of it.
Did you read to your children when they were younger? Do you still?
Have a great day everyone!

P.S.
I posted a potato chip dip in the kitchen. It's even low fat.

LOVE those Penderwick girls!
I absolutely LOVE this! I remember my parents reading with me until at least middle school and those are some of the most precious memories. It sparked my love for reading, gave us some quality time together, and it was always so fun to use my imagination with my parents.
So glad you're doing this with your kids!
As a school librarian, I love to hear this. We read to our children almost every night, and now my oldest, 11 and 14, read themselves each night before bed. My husband and I read in bed most nights as well - with the Red Sox on in the background :) You've given your children a wonderful gift!
I love reading to my daughter. I usually have to tell her how many books I am willing to read and then she tries to bargain for more. Or some songs and back rubs:)
The Hobbit was the first 'long chapter book' that I read aloud to my children! What an adventure! And The Penderwicks series is delghtful - that first in the series was such a great 'summer time read' for kids!
Love your snippets of family life!
I love this! I was just thinking the other day how much I miss reading bedtime stories to the kids. I think I may have to copy you on this one!
