8:45 Pull into 3900 Bethel Drive.
3:00 Pick up Ian from school.
3:30 Take Ian to speech.
4:30 Get Katie off the bus.

When I get home I am Ms. Crabby!! My amazing husband asks me what he can do, gives me the space I need, and then when I am ready extends his open arms to me and holds me close. He exhibts The Father's love to me everyday...I am so blessed. I am so looking forward to date night tonight. Have a wonderful weekend!

Bowling
Last Friday the kids did not have school due to a professional day for teacher's. We were kindly invited to go bowling with some friends of ours from Katie's school. We met them when Katie was in Kindergarten, and we have been friends ever since.
We had a great time "cosmic" bowling. Ian loved "rockin out" to all of the videos. He would occasionaly foul. A red light would go on and flash. He was so funny! He would get so mad, and point at the buzzer and tell it to stop. Katie won the game, and was happy about that. After we were finished bowling we had french fries and blue-raspberry slushies. What a treat! We had a fun day off!
Take care~

Bits of encouragement
Dear Friends~
May you feel God's love and peace in a special way today.
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not own thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct they paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
I know this verse is very common, but it is one of my favorites and a good reminder for me.
Many of you have heard about the numerous lay offs and job cuts at Target. Brian's department was spared from any of this, and we are very grateful to God!
Love~

Happy Birthday Tyler!
<
Yesterday we had the pleasure of celebrating our nephew Tyler's 11th birthday at my parents home. Like usual, when we get together with my family there is good conversation, good laughs and most importantly good foood. We started the tradition of celebrating the grandkids birthdays at Amachi's and Appachen's this fall. Mostly because my middle sister (Susie) and I did not want to host two birthday parties for each of our children. Unfortunately, Liza and Brian were not able to come (youngest sister and her husband). Liza came down with the flu...bummer!! We missed you guys!! Enjoy the photos!
Stay warm!

Out of the mouths of babes
Ian: "Dad, I'm so proud of you that you beat Count Doukou."
Brian: "Katie what does this mean?"
Katie: "Dad what is the theme of France? Romance Dad, it is all about romance."
Katie: "Dad, before you open your laptop and get on facebook, I think you should
spend some time with your family."
Ian: "Mom that little blond girl is just dumb, she doesn't even know what 3+3 is."
Rachel: "Ian! Do you know what 3+3 is?"
Ian: 6

Date night
My amazing husband and I started this tradition probably three or four years ago. We were feeling the "pressures" of everyday life and really needed some time to connect just the two of us, so we started date night. Friday night is reserved for us. We try not to have anything conflict with this time. We have made a few exceptions, and if you have been one of them know that you are very special. :) Date night is probably not what you imagine, but it suits us just fine.
1. Feed the kids and get them set up with a movie or game.
2. Brian and Rachel make a special dinner for themselves.
3. Put the kids to bed.
4. Enjoy each others company and good conversation.
Pretty simple and easy. I look forward to it every week!
Tonight's menu:
Italian bread with gorgonzola, fig jam, and pears
Chicken Scalloppine with Saffron cream sauce
Sauted Kale with garlic and tomatoes
Pinot Grigio

National Pie day
Did you know that tomorrow is National Pie day? I heard about it on my way into work today. You see, I kind of have a thing for pie. I just love it! Many of you that know me well, would say Rachel you love all sweet things. This is true, but I really do love pie. There is something so comforting about it, so delicious, but simple. Does that make sense?
When I was very young I remember my mom making an apple pie. I pretty sure she used a pre-made crust. What I remember is her cutting and peeling a lot of green apples! She wasn't happy, and she never made one again. You see my mom isn't really a baker, but she cooks delicious Indian meals.
I also remember the first time I had my mother-in-law's pie. It was March of 1990. It was the first time I met my amazing husband's family. We had been dating for about six months, and I guess Brian thought it was time I met his family. Well, Ruth (my mother-in-law) went all out. Not just for me, but her eldest son was coming home for a visit from college. She made a wonderful turkey dinner, and we had the most amazing apple pie for dessert! I later found out that Ruth is the "pie queen." She can whip out a pie so fast, and they are amazing!
Four years later, I was a new wife. I was excited to start cooking/baking for my new husband. I naturally wanted to learn how to make pies. First I just made the fillings and used a pre-made crust, then I started making the crust as well. I remember making sour cream apple, strawberry, and chicken pot pie. Funny thing was I didn't like making the crusts, at all! Well, one particular evening I was making chicken pot pie for dinner, and Brian and I got into a "heated discussion." I remember being very frustrated with him, so I left the kitchen and told him he could finish dinner. I thought he couldn't do it. I should have known better! He made the chicken pot pie and it was better than any of the pies I had made. Did I tell you he was amazing or what. That was the end of my pie making days for many years. I just figured Brian likes to make pie, he is good at it, and they taste great so why should I bother
This past summer though I got the itch to start making pies again. I was up for the challenge. I started with a white peach cardamon, then banana cream, butterscotch, blueberry, apple, and finally sour cream apple. Overall, I feel like I did pretty good. Living with the "Pie King" helps of course. He is a great teacher. I haven't made a pie since this fall. Maybe this weekend. If you have an interest in making pie I would really encourage you to try. It is really rewarding, but most of all sooo delicious!! Happy baking.
Love~

I miss you...
Dear Brian ~
Oh what I weekend we had!
I frantically cleaned all afternoon after running errands and reading to Ian's class.
Jen and I went to pick up the kiddos from school. We were there until 5:00 p.m. attending Haleigh's science fair. Once we got home, I made Jen and I cranberry gingerly's and we warmed up the kids take-out. The boys played the Wii and the girls were watching movies in Katie's room for most of the evening. Jen and I enjoyed our dinner in peace. We got the kids settled in bed at 11:00, yes 11:00 p.m. We started watching our movie, Brick lane it was o.k. and had red velvet cake with melted ice cream. Don't ask about the ice cream. The Caruso's left the next day close to 1:00.
Our children have been keeping your side of the bed warm. They like sleeping with mama, even our pre-teen. :) We went to church this morning and had fun with a lot of 2-5 year olds. Came home had lunch and went to the library.
My favorite quote of the weekend.
Katie and Haleigh discussing alcoholic beverages.
Katie: "My mom really isn't into alcohol."
Haleigh: "My mom is!"
We got a good laugh out of this.
I am now patiently awaiting your arrival. I have missed you so much! I can't wait to hear all about your weekend and cuddle up with you.
Your adoring wife~
